This week in my iPhone

  • Learned I'm allergic to hops
  • Found a passion vine in the woods
  • Noticed Joe Pye Weed is EVERYWHERE -- for you nerds -- Eutrochium
  • Went on a hunt for more queen red lime zinnias, as you can see, I do not settle coming home empty-handed
  • Fell in love with the shade of the sandy femma rose -- creamy yellow with a hint of blush and caramel, light fragrance, and low petal count which makes for a pretty opener
  • Watched more of Amy's poppies bloom and shatter
  • Cut some roses and foxglove from the garden
  • Made a lot of arrangements (and ate donuts) with my new friend Erin
  • Packed, unpacked, repacked, unpacked, repacked, unpacked, repacked, unpacked, repacked, unpacked my van...remember how I outgrew my last workspace...I think that might be happening with my van...

Life is a fun, crazy adventure and I like sharing it with you!  Like Jesse says, "what did you happen to this week?"  Send me a picture of what happened in your flower world this week and I'll give my favorite 5 a shout out on Team Flower next week :)  [email protected]

Tinge

I've always liked the name of my friend Ashley's business -- Tinge.  Just a touch of color.  Some people overlook it, but people like Ashley and I over-look it as in...stare at it...tilt our heads and smile at it...then let out a gleeful scream because, yes, the colors are just soooo good!  See, how that perfectly rosy, but terra cotta colored zinnia brings out that tiny tinge of color in the leaves?  No?  You were captivated by the cafe au lait dahlia weren't you?  Those will get you too.  But that tiny tinge in the leaf made me forget about everything else...even the dahlia...and I got lost in the flowers again...

Progress

I took a picture on my phone today.

I was standing in the middle of a mess when I did it.  A gasoline can at my feet...a lawnmower next to it.  Odds and ends that need a home, dirty containers, rotting flowers, spider webs, a random five dollar bill — sometimes that's all I see.

But as I stepped back for a second a word came to my mind — Progress.

In March I built these rolling carts.  One has a crooked leg...gives it character I suppose.  They are big and I like them.  Last week Jesse painted them.  I found these lamps I like on a trip to DC this spring...makes it feel friendly.  Last year at this time I had a little wobbly card table.  Progress!

I think we should tell perfectionism to take a hike and celebrate progress more.
